Tips and Tricks for Lawn Care

Lawncare Charlotte

Mowing your lawn seems simple enough, but a lot more goes into it than simply getting the mower going and cutting your grass. If you mow correctly then you will have beautifully groomed grass that is healthy, drought-tolerant, and thick. It will keep away the weeds and survive on its own. If you do not take care of your law properly, then it will struggle to survive. Take a look at these tips and tricks for lawn care to get your lawn looking beautiful this spring.

Keep a Sharp Mower Blade

It is essential to keep your mower blade sharp. This will ensure that you are cutting grass evenly. If you have a dull blade, you will notice tearing grass, and an uneven edge. These tears create openings for pests and diseases. You will notice that a lawn cut with a dull blade will show a whitish or brown hue on the tips as they die off. Be sure to sharpen your blades a few times each season.

Mow When Grass Is Dry

This may seem interesting to you, but it is ideal to mow your lawn when the grass is dry. Although it won’t hurt the grass to mow when wet, it will not give as good results. Wet grass can also clog your mower deck, and may end up creating an uneven cut. Be sure to always remove clumps of grass that come out of your mower because otherwise, the grass can die. If you do need to mow while the grass is wet, be sure to put oil or silicone spray on the underside of the mower. This will help prevent grass from sticking.

Practice Grasscycling

After you cut the grass if you let grass clippings lie on the lawn afterward this is called grasscycling. This not only saves you time but also money. Rather than using yard waste bags and buying fertilizer, you can use grass clippings. These clippings can provide up to 25 percent of your lawn’s fertilizer needs.

Grasscycling is really impressive, and you do not even need a specialized mulching mower. We sure to use a mulching blade on your mower, as this cuts the grass into smaller pieces that decompose quickly. Grasscycling can be done with minimal fuss and mess.

Avoid Scalping

Scalping your grass means you are cutting it extremely short. This allows your lawn to be vulnerable to diseases and weed infestation. Having a scalped turf essentially means that it is weak and sparse, it will expose the soil, and allow weeds to make their way in. It will prevent your root system from taking hold, and all-around producing a weak lawn.

Get Help From a Professional

Although you can take care of your lawn, if you are having serious issues and can’t seem to get it to grow, then you may need the help of a professional. For more tips and tricks check out your local Lawncare experts in Charlotte.
